How Microneedling Works

The Dermapen 4 moves fine, sterile needles in and out of the skin at speed, reaching into the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin. Your practitioner sets the depth for each area: deeper for acne scarring, shallower around the eyes. The tiny injuries close quickly, but they set off the skin’s natural repair process, which produces new collagen and elastin.

During treatment we apply a Meso-Glide (MG) serum chosen for your skin. It helps the pen glide and is drawn into the skin through the channels. Afterwards we apply DP Dermaceuticals products to calm the skin and support healing.

Results build gradually. Your skin often looks fresher within a couple of weeks, with more change over the following months as new collagen forms.

What does the treatment involve?

The Dermapen is a mechanical device that is used to stimulate collagen production and increase product penetration by creating micro-channels in the skin. This action triggers a healing process, similar to fractional laser procedures, which stimulates your own cells to increase the production of collagen and elastin. Dermapen Skin Therapy rejuvenates the skin leaving it firmer, smoother and looking younger.

What results can I expect?

The treatment results in the formation of collagen and elastin with improved blood circulation to the skin as well. Following the treatment, the skin looks red similar to a sunburn. In general, micro needling results in thicker, healthier, more youthful-looking skin.  Over the course of a full set of treatments, the body will produce new layers of skin containing higher levels of elastin and collagen.  This, in turn, improves the complexion and gives the skin a more radiant, vibrant glow.

Are there any side effects?

Microneedling has very little downtime, and side effects are usually mild and short-lived. Most people have some redness and a warm, tight feeling, much like mild sunburn, straight after treatment. This typically settles within 24 to 72 hours.

Other common, temporary effects include:

  • Mild swelling in the treated area
  • Stinging, itching or tightness of the skin
  • Dryness, flaking or light peeling over the following days as the skin renews
  • Occasionally some pinpoint bleeding or minor bruising
